Nail surgery for ingrown toenails Subiaco
Ingrown Nail Surgery
What is a Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA)?
Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA) surgery is a common procedure used to relieve the pain, discomfort, and complications caused by ingrown toenails. This highly effective treatment has a low recurrence rate and is particularly beneficial for recurring cases.
In this procedure, only the problematic part of the ingrown nail is removed, ensuring minimal cosmetic impact. The area will be numbed with a local anaesthetic before performing the surgery.

How does it work?
Your podiatrist will determine if nail surgery is required during the initial consultation. If surgery is recommended, a neurovascular assessment will be performed before scheduling the procedure.
On the surgery day, your podiatrist will apply a local anaesthetic to numb your toe. Once numb, a straight incision is made, and the problematic nail spicule is removed. Phenol will be applied to the base of the nail to prevent regrowth.
The surgery itself takes approximately 15 minutes, with the consultation lasting 60 minutes. The time required may vary based on how many sides of the toenail need to be removed.

Am I suitable for the surgery?
Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA) is generally a safe option for all healthy individuals suffering from recurrent ingrown nails in Subiaco. Some conditions may necessitate further evaluations to confirm your eligibility for the surgery, which may include:
Your podiatrist will discuss and assess all of this during your initial consultation.
What is the recovery time after the surgery?
After the surgery, you can walk and bear weight straight away. Normal activities can be resumed in a few days, and sports can be restarted after 2 to 3 weeks.
